Please help us digitize and make available the archives of HORIZON, one of the greatest magazines of literature and the arts ever published.
Donate and receive a copy of The Middle Ages, with 11 brilliant essays from HORIZON!
Published in hardcover format, HORIZON was an extraordinary intellectual magazine covering the arts, literature, history, and world culture.
Authors included James Agee, W.H Auden, Saul Bellow, Anthony Burgess, Joseph Campbell, Arthur Clarke, Malcolm Cowley, Antonia Fraser, Murray Kempton, Somerset Maugham, Nancy Mitford, Lewis Mumford, Frank O'Hara, George Plimpton, J.B. Priestly, Ben Shahn, Wallace Stegner, John Updike, Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., and P.G. Wodehouse.
Now, a dedicated group of volunteers at American Heritage has begun to digitize the issues and make writing from this respected magazine of arts and culture available to new generations of readers. We have collected a complete set of issues, scanned covers, and begun the tedious process of digitization for a new website.
It is imperative that we save the writing in this beloved magazine for future generations.
If you donate $25 or more, we will send you a copy of Middle Ages, a new anthology of 11 briliant essays from HORIZON on such topics as:
- Europe in the year 1000,
- the Moors of Spain,
- how the Normans conquered England,
- the Knights Templar,
- King Richard battling Saladin,
- the enlighted Alfonso the Learned of Castille,
- the terrors of the Black Death, and
- lasting contributions of the troubadors.
This anthology is a great sampling of some of the wonderful writing that was in HORIZON.
